Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnochm

Just open a .chm file with russian text (may also try another non-english locale).

By the way, how to attach files to the bug report?

Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 beta or later?

I didn't install beta. I'll wait for the official version and then tell you if it is still an issue or not.

This issue is still present in official 8.10.

Problem in /usr/bin/gnochm, in function repl_entities(text):

subs = entitydefs[match.group("str")].decode(
                    'latin-1').encode('utf-8')

Perhaps it needs default encoding setting that user may set in preferences?

Still reproduces in 9.04.

Yes, for sure, the encoding setting should be present in preferences.
