Bug Description

Binary package hint: metacity

Right-clicking a window's title bar and choosing Move to Another Workspace has no effect for me in Gutsy. This is true for all applications (not just Synaptic as in bug 36443). Choosing "Move to Workspace Left" or "... Right" works as expected. This has been the case since I first upgraded to Gutsy about two months ago. I'm surprised I'm the first person to report it so far.

Compiz is disabled. I have no proprietary kernel modules loaded (only proprietary firmware for the bcm43xx wireless driver). My graphics hardware is Intel G965 / X3000 at 1680x1050 resolution. I suspect this is a Metacity bug, but I don't know which log files to look at to get more information on the problem. Any ideas?

This happens whichever new workspace you select?

For what little it's worth, it's working fine for me with 2.18.2 (feisty) and 2.19.55 (upstream trunk), but the same operation in wncklet seems to be broken. I don't have a gutsy system to hand. What version is in gutsy?

Yes it happens with whichever new workspace, version in gutsy is 2.19.34, and yeah trunk works just fine.

So what would fix this bug, then? Gutsy upgrading to the latest 2.19 release? I know I'm a GNOME person and not so much an Ubuntu person, and I know Gutsy isn't released yet, but it's kind of not so much of a surprise when things break from time to time in the unstable branch.

(FWIW there's nothing in the changelog which appears to fix this between 2.19.34 and 2.19.55, or even affect it other than the reordering of window menu options.)

Sebastien: Are you sure this is a duplicate of bug #121796? Its
description seems completely different to me. Indeed, the original
submitter of bug #132372 (which _does_ seem to be a duplicate of
#121796) says that that, for him, "Interestingly though, the move to
another workspace sub menu on the window list context menu is not
affected."

not, I'm not sure, but since you didn't reply to the previous comments and it looked likely to be the same. Feel free to reopen if you want to give extra informations and thinks that's a different bug

This has been a problem for me since tribe 4 and is still now, with everything updated (gnome 2.19.92, kernel 22-11), in both 32 and 64 bit versions, with or without desktop effects. Moving right or left works, but I can't move to any arbitrary desktop. I didn't realize how much I used this feature until it stopped working.
