Bug Description

Hello ,

If CUSTOM_SUBJECT is set in /etc/apticron/apticron.conf on Ubuntu 12.04, then $NUM_PACKAGES is not part of the mail subject. If i mofify /usr/sbin/apticron with my subject settings, then it works fine.

My subjekt i used was: $NUM_PACKAGES $DISTRIB_ID $DISTRIB_RELEASE $DISTRIB_CODENAME updates for $SYSTEM

Cheers

Martin

I found this bug too. Even after 3 years.
Here's a solution:
All variables passed to CUSTOM_SUBJECT need to be escaped with a backslash:
CUSTOM_SUBJECT="[apticron] \$SYSTEM \$NUM_PACKAGES \$DISTRIB_ID package update(s)"
