Top toolbar freezes on some tools

After using a tool (for instance the Color Picker), I switch to another tool. Instead of updating with new drop down menus (e.g., for the Rectangle tool, I would like to be able to select filled/unfilled), the top toolbar continues to display the first tool (Color Picker) and the dropdown menus for that tool. Nonetheless, if I click in the right place on the toolbar, I can use the dropdown menus for the new tool. Nothing seems to update the toolbar display.

This occurred on a fairly large PNG image (4000x4000px). I haven't tried other types of files.
