Bug Description

I'm using Inkscape 0.48 on Mac OS X 10.9.2. I downloaded and installed the inkscape binary from your website.

Each time I open the attached svg file, Inkscape crashes. (The Inkscape window just disappears.)

Regards,

Ryo

P.S. The Finder says that the Inkscape is created on Sunday, July 17, 2011 at 14:47, and its version is 0.48.2.

Crash not reproduced on OS X 10.7.5 with
- Inkscape 0.48.2 (same official package for Mac OS X as the reporter)
- local build of 0.48.2 (newer dependencies)
- local builds of 0.48.3.1, 0.48.4, 0.48+devel r13157

1) Does inkscape launch by itself or open other SVG files without crashing?
2) Could you please attached the crash report which is auto-generated by the system?
You can find crash reports in 'Home > Library > Logs > DiagnosticReports'; the file names of individual reports are based on the application name (here: 'inkscape-bin') with a date and time stamp appended. Please attach one relevant to the reported issue.

Just to be sure - you did install XQuartz first, and logged out and back in (or rebootet your system) to properly finish the installation of XQuartz (as is described on the download page on inkscape.org), before attempting to use Inkscape?

Hi,

I'll respond to the second message first.

Yes. I installed the latest version of XQuartz as soon as I bought this MacBook Pro (February 27), and at least several days later, I downloaded and installed Inkscape. Of course I shut down and started my Mac many times between the two events.

Yes. It opens at least two other SVG files correctly without crashing.

I don't find that directory (folder).

I've noticed that although I said "crash", the application Inkscape still runs because its icon is shown in the task tray (is that the name of the place?) with the "active" white dot displayed below it.

In any case, when I "Open" the file, the window vanishes right away.

Ryo

Do you happen to use a multi-monitor setup with your Mac?

Yes! How did you know? :-)

Apple changed how spaces interact with multiple screens, and this change doesn't work well with XQuartz, which tends to cause windows and dialogs of X11-based applications to get lost somewhere in-between spaces, and make it difficult to retrieve them again:

- Bug #1244397 “OS X Mavericks/XQuartz: limited support for multi-monitor setups”
  <https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1244397>

This needs to be fixed by Apple in a future update of Mavericks, and then in a future release of XQuartz (according to the developer of XQuartz).

Proposing to link as duplicate to bug #1244397.

Linking as duplicate to bug #1244397 - please add a comment here (bug #1293232) and revert the duplicate status if you disagree, or have additional information which indicates that the issue is not related to the known XQuartz issue with Mavericks' new mission control feature (separate spaces for each display), which may cause windows managed by X11/XQuartz to disappear "between monitors".

Hello, I think it's not a duplicate bug. Sometimes windows disappear on MAC OSs.
A friend of mine wrote a free tool for bringing back the windows. Maybe it’s what you need it. So, if you want to check it out, go here : http://bring-em-back.com . Maybe it will work it.
Cheers, Gabriel
