Trying to start usb-creator with this command: "LC_ALL=C usb-creator-gtk" fails with the following error message:

An unhandled exception occurred:
'ascii' codec can't encode character '\xe4' in position 13: ordinal not in range(128)

Actually I'm a bit misunderstood your bugreport and thought it's about old problem with ISO in non-latin directory.

As I understand you tried LC_ALL=C because of this. It shouldn't work and it's OK since it can't read localized Downloads and Desktop directories.

But it should work with en_EN.UTF-8 while it doesn't, so it's encoding problems anyway.

While I was trying to investigate this bug I've realized that there's no locale "en_EN.UTF-8" and it was doing fallback to "C".

LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8 works without problems (with patch from bug #1289314).
