Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdebase

According to http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=113629 SuSE has added a patch so that LUKS volume can be mounted through the GUI: http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-commit/2007-01/msg00540.html (note that the bug seems to change unrelated things, the important bit is at the bottom).

Further information can also be found here: http://strony.aster.pl/tanis/kde_luks/

I'd like it very much if that could make it into Gutsy, as Gnome has had LUKS support for a while now...

At least jpatrick's back port to gutsy doesn't reallywork. It detects the
drives to be encrypted properly (which is a step in the right direction for
sure), offers to mount them but then it gets stuck not knowing what to do to
encrypt it, I guess.

Specifically, it tells me it wants to open a file of mime type
"media/removable_unmounted_encrypted"
but has no helper application associated to that.

Yes, I fixed that in a later upload. I forgot the new .desktop files the patch created. This has been fixed in Hardy see:

Just to record that obviously this functionality is lost with the switch to KDE 4, as is shown by #253768.
