Bug Description

Binary package hint: azureus

The current version of Azureus is 3.0.16 or something in Ubuntu only the version 2.5.x is available and this version runs very unstable with the JVM which are included in Ubuntu (on my system i use a BEA Jrocket JVM and azrureus runs stable)

A Upgrade to a newer version of Azurues would be very good because it has a lot of new features and runs faster and more stable than 2.5.x

Feisty has already been released and won't be updated. Please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BackportRequestProcess for information on how to get newer versions in feisty-backports. Critical bugs can, and should, be fixed as updates to the release. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MOTU/SRU for the criteria and process.

Reopening regarding 3.0.3.4; Debian already has 3.0.3.4 recently uploaded but associated dependencies (SWT 3.3) are not up. As soon as the currenty Gutsy situation is dealt with and those dependencies show up, I will deal with 3.0.3.4 to Hardy.

Thanks for your patience.

Is it possible to get azureus3 working with SWT 3.2 libraries we currently have in the hardy repository? Getting the new eclipse stack in to repository is not looking good.

Already tried -- azureus3 uses several UI elements only in SWT 3.3. It might be possible to do some horribly mutated splice of azureus2's UI with azureus3's core, (what version would that be? :D) but I'm pretty sure the Azureus team will be chasing after me with flaming pitchforks if I tried.

Would it be possible to get swt-gtk from Debian and let it provide SWT 3.3 related binaries? I know it's a code duplication / potential trouble when eclipse gets updated..

Already tried that route too -- Ubuntu java folks strongly disagreed with that approach (they seem not to agree with Debian's Java guys on the way eclipse is handled) and I backed off.

I have reviewed the package merge for Intrepid and it looks good. I will upload, but I'd really appreciate it if folks can test it carefully in the next few weeks to make sure it is stable and reliable. We have a poor track record with upstream already because of our history of broken Azureus packaging. If necessary, we may have to rebuild this with OpenJDK, so keep eyes peeled for extremely poor performance or segfaulting and file bugs according.

Thanks
