Installing "unity-system-compositor" no longer does anything (unity-system-compositor never runs)

Installing "unity-system-compositor" no longer starts anything (unity-system-compositor never runs). In saucy, you could simply:
    sudo apt-get install unity-system-compositor
and get a working XMir setup.

However in trusty, installing unity-system-compositor seems to do nothing. Lightdm never starts USC and it doesn't even seem to have a config file installed to do so.

You should install "ubuntu-desktop-mir" to enable things automatically as the system compositor itself doesn't contain configuration. Don't know if it has bitrotted since however.

OK, so the answer is "you're using it wrong" :)

Thanks for the clarification here. I'll subscribe to bug 1280939 and try installing ubuntu-desktop-mir once that's reported fixed ... :-)

Tried u-s-c (with ubuntu-desktop-mir). At first I got a blank screen, but after running `sudo restart lightdm` I was able to log into Unity. The fonts looks a a bit weird and some apps (Firefox, VLC, file selector) are not themed. Otherwise, usable...

Edwin - That's an X bug. Mir and unity-system-compositor only deal the the screen as a whole. Not the pixels/fonts etc.
