Bug Description

TSclient needs a new icon. The blue "windows" icon is ok, but doesn't really
demonstrate what it does.
In addition, the top blue bar has wierd artifacts of blue and green around it. I
favour removing the top blue bar entirely, but that may not fly. I say remove it
as it looks more like a windows app than a gnome one. However, one user I polled
said that it looked "professional and out of place"

I agree that this blue bar is not useful and might be removed. The current icon (computer+shiny globe) seems fine for me.

Hi.

Are you talking about current icon (attached)?
Or about an old one?

I suggest beautifying even more of TSclient.

In Dapper times, a guy named Lauri Taumila has created a Human theme for TSclient, which incorporates icons used in all TSclient tabs, and even the top strip. I suggest Ubuntu to replace the files in TSclient with his creation, or other files from Human theme (where appropriate, e.g. sound.png is different from what I see in the Settings menu in Gutsy).

The theme description and a download link is here: http://www.taimila.com/?q=node/3. I'm also attaching the theme to this bug.

Oops, I misspelled his name. He's actually named Lauri Taimila.

Oh, and talking about an icon, the Human theme has both a beautiful orange globe and a nice computer with a brown desktop. If only someone could merge them nicely into one icon similarly to the current icon of tsclient, that icon would rock IMHO.

My 2 cents:

I also agree that the current icon looks a bit "old" (mainly the color of computer case and screen look quite old somehow). But switching to an orange icon doesn't seem like a good solution to me: if all apps do that, the taskbar is full of orange icons - that would make it quite difficult to distinguish the different apps :-) . Also IMHO it's not necessary that the screen on the icon looks like the Ubuntu desktop - after all, tsclient is meant for accessing _other_ systems as well.

So I think it would be nice to polish the current tsclient icon... IMHO the globe looks quite nice; but maybe the computer could be replaced by something from the Tango icon set or by a blue-colored version of the computer from the Human theme?

It would be nice if the tsclient applet icon would follow the icon theme conventions. Right now, GNOME_TSClientApplet.server has the icon hardcoded to /usr/share/pixmaps/tsclient/tsclient.png. The problem with that, of course, is that regardless of what icon theme you use, it will always use that icon.

Even if GNOME_TSClientApplet.server is edited to this:

<oaf_attribute name="panel:icon" type="string" value="tsclient.png"/>

instead of

<oaf_attribute name="panel:icon" type="string" value="/usr/share/pixmaps/tsclient/tsclient.png"/>

it still does not follow the theme convention.

On Hardy after launching the RDP session using tsclient the "Window Menu Button" displays a generic program icon on the title bar of the rdesktop session. This does not integrate well with the rest of the desktop. I would like to see the actual tsclient icon displayed during the rdesktop session. Is it possible to pass the "Window Menu Bar" parameters to rdesktop? Thanks.

Thank you for reporting this bug. tsclient has been removed from the Ubuntu 11.10 archives. The software has not had a new release in years and was no longer being maintained. Unfortunately that means this bug won't be fixed.

Yes, I have moved on to Remmina.
