Samir Boumsik, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Could you please test the latest upstream kernel available (not the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-3.13

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding.

I have the same problem with XBUNTU 14.04-1.
Disabling ACPI disables battery features too - so it isn´t a solution.

ACPI works with Debian Wheezy without problems.

Still same error on ACER Extensa 5630Z

I have made some test with Ubuntu 13.04, 13.10, 14.04 and even with the latest building of 14.10 Beta. The result is that until Ubuntu 13.10 it has been working really fine, the latest Kernel I could test with 13.10 is the version 3.8.0-19.

With Kernel 3.11 I started to have this problem, an it still continues to Kernel 3.13.0-36.

Once you set acpi=off Ubuntu is loaded correctly, but as it is a laptop there is no way to work without acpi

I have tried all parameters of ACPI unsuccesfully.

Any idea? Any Help?

I 've tried too and the problem exist in every acer laptop I tried, in order to boot with acpi you have to blacklist yenta_socket in /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf
what I did was install ubuntu using acpi=off then blacklist yenta_socket and turn on acpi again

Samir Boumsik, when you test the latest mainline kernel as previously requested of you in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1272786/comments/3 , is this reproducible?

I can confirm this bahaviour.
I tried the mainline kernels 3.13.11 and 3.18.2 . Both get stuck after adding swap and then changing the font.
