Bug Description

Binary package hint: samba

just installed samba on feisty with apt-get install samba

then: I have shared a folder by right-clicking > Share > Share > Configure File Sharing. The icon changes to a "shared" style icon afterwards.

then in konqueror:

smb://ubuntu/share

"...folder doesn't exist"

or

smb://ubuntu/share

"Unable to find any workgroups in your local network. This might be caused by an enabled firewall"

samba seems to be very slow and inconsistent

my samba.conf is "out of the box" i did'nt change anything

my logs:

Anonymous login successful

SMB connection failed

same thin when i try to mount the smb share:

user@ubuntu:~$ sudo mount -t smbfs -o fmask=777,dmask=777,username=user,password=******** //UBUNTU/test/share /home/share
7381: tree connect failed: ERRDOS - ERRnosuchshare (You specified an invalid share name)

After fiddling and searching, I restarted samba (sudo /etc/init.d/samba restart). And then I commented out "msdfs proxy = no" and restarted samba.

And voila! It's now working. I can dupllicate the problem. If I put in "msdfs proxy = no" in my smb.conf and restart samba, it won't work. If I comment it out again, it works.

why feisty is writing "msdfs proxy = no" to every shared folder in smb.conf...

please correct this thing for samba!

I just want to be sure.. This is in GNOME's Nautilus, is it?

Right, "msdfs proxy" should not be set. Especially not to "no".

It matters a lot. Samba does not configure itself. It's KDE that's
putting the config into smb.conf.
