Thanks for your bug report!

I can't replicate this. However, I'm not using the official package from Gutsy, so I'll leave this open for someone other to check it.

Changed in pidgin:
importance: Undecided → Medium
importance: Medium → Low

Okay, thanks. That's a vertical panel, not horizontal...

I still don't have this problem but as I said I've not the official package so let's wait for someone other to confirm it.

I am getting the same bug on Kubuntu 7.04 using Pidgin 2.0.2 built from source. My panel size is large so 2 rows of icons normally fit. This seems to happen only when it is run on startup, since quitting out of pidgin and restarting fixes the issue.

confirmed on Gutsy, icon size is corrected if the panel is switched to horizontal then to vertical again

Confirmed on Gutsy latest.
 - To reproduce the panel must be vertical at the time that pidgin is started
 - Unlike David Fraska, if I quit and restart pidgin repeatedly during a session it continues to display the over-sized icons.

I'm also getting the bug in Kubuntu 7.04. It only happens on startup. I suspect that the bug may be related to the fact that Pidgin usually loads before knetworkmanager and is therefore trying to connect to the Internet before a network connection has been established. If I close Pidgin and restart it the icon is displayed at the correct size.

I have this problem in kubuntu gutsy, with a horizontal panel (bottom). I can fix it by moving the panel to the right side, then moving it back again. sometimes when it starts it figures it out itself anyway. let me know if I can provide any more info.

Confirmed - issue does not go away when I manipulate the panel or close/reopen Pidgin. Stays big all the time. Screenshot of notification area attached.

this is still the same in version 2.3.1 (unnofficial .deb from getdeb.net)

still the same in 2.4.1. unfortunately its really annoying. it helps to start pigdin 2 (or more) times and then close the last instance(s).

I've been running jaunty with pidgin for the last few months, and I haven't
noticed the problem. I'd say it's probably fixed.

cheers
