Bug Description

Maybe better to provide a vid but will try to describe
Tested on a new install of todays image.

Test case:
Open a well populated window in home folder where more than 50% of files aren't visible (resize nautilus if needed
Click on any visible window > rename, should be as normal

Then scroll down to bottom, try to rename some of the newly exposed files
At least here most if not all of those files, when rename is used, will have their name disappear with no visible rename label

If so clicking away from where the rename box would be returns current name
(typing in will effect a rename though nothing is visible untill done

This also effects nautilus 3.10.1 from the GNOME 3 PPA. I noticed it trying to rename files such as .gconf and .config to test fresh profiles.

The same bug is also present in Nemo so it looks like a gtk+ 3 is the source of the problem.

Thanks for the bug report, I can confirm in trusty and that seems fixed with nautilus 3.10 (the update is being considered/tested). If we don't get the new version then we should look at backporting the fix for that issue

ok, it was indeed an issue with the new GTK with an easy commit, I've backported that to trusty so we don't have a less usable filemanager until the 3.10 situation is sorted out

I just installed Ubuntu 14.04 and I'm using Nemo 1.8.4 since Nautilus doesn't support an extra visible pane anymore (F3). I believe Nemo is based on Nautilus and I've got the exact problem as mentioned in this bug report. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?

Tony - you should file bug with nemo, you can point to the gnome bug
listed in this report & or the git_rename_

display.patch which was used until in 14.04 until nautilus went to
version 3.10
