How do you change the type of the image?

I change the type of the image by selecting the filetype in the field of the save-as dialog.

Well, if I don't change the file name then it does change the extension correctly (e.g. from .png to .gif).

But if I type in a new name -- without entering a extension -- and change the file type then the save as dialog doesn't automatically change/add the corresponding extension.
=> It seems that this is not a Gimp bug. It rather refers to the gnome-save-as dialog.

Thanks for attending this!

Do you use the "select type" list or the combox box on the right which is only a filter for the selector?

I've got the problem as well using Ubuntu 8.04. It is very annoying and I would enjoy this bug to be fixed! :-)

Hello,
why is this still happening?
Every program can automatically change file extensions on selection of file type.

Has this been reported to the GIMP tracker?

Thanks,
Timmie
