I just did a manual check of today's image both offline (unpacked the squashf) and online (booted the image) and in both case, the sources.list was as expected:

stgraber@castiana:~/Desktop$ cat squashfs/etc/apt/sources.list
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty main restricted universe
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty-security main restricted universe
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty-updates main restricted universe

(and an extra cdrom entry when booted in the live session)

Could it be that the automated testing environment messed it up somehow?

hm, there is a 'saucy' hardcoded. I've been confused by the 'cdrom' line in sources.list. Sorry for that. closing and will provide a fix for the runner that shouldn't touch sources.list in the first place.
