Bug Description

Binary package hint: totem

I make some amendment to the totem-xine config file "~/.gnome2/totem_config" without Totem started. After save the file, I open Totem and chose "File -> Open Location", I type an address inside the "Open location Box" and click ok. All my amendment saved in the totem_config file will lost and the totem_config file is reset to default.

To confirm by somebody using the xine backend. Maybe worth trying with xine-ui also in case that would be a libxine bug

Is your file replaced if you don't do changes to it? Does it happen with any video?

Are these configurations hard-coded or what?

I want Totem to use AC3 pass through, but that setting won't stick. When I change it in gconf-editor, next time I restart totem will just go back to 5.1 surround ...

I want to ask this bug to be re-opened.
Like Ivanyung I edit ~/.config/totem/xine_config but my reason to edit it is because the current media.vcd.device parameter is set to /media/cdrom0
I tried to make totem play vcd via Movie->Play disc command
I am using Ubuntu 8.04 for i386, and currently I can only play VCD with xine-ui or with totem-xine via command line
$ totem vcd:///dev/cdrom

If I use
$ totem vcd:///media/cdrom0
then the totem will complain that "There is no input plugin to handle the location of this movie"

I suspect that the current Movie->Play disc will use /media/cdrom0 (the mounted cd) when what it needed was /dev/cdrom (the link to the device file).
I also suspect that by editing the xine_config file then totem-xine would use /dev/cdrom to play vcd but after I edit the file and save it, everytime I ran totem to play something the file get reset back.

I have search via googles about totem-xine unable to play vcd and many people think that totem-xine is unable to play vcd and switch to mplayer or vlc for that purpose. But one of the entries I found in the internet point me that there might be no symlink /cdrom that points to /dev/cdrom

If there is any info that I can supply to help solve this bug please tell me what is needed.

I am also having this problem. I remember that there's a trick to this, but I thought it involved changing the last option in the config (allow implicit changes). Apparently I was wrong. It seems totem-xine resets the config file by design and I think there is some way one can convince totem-xine to accept alterations but I can't remember it clearly.
