Updating from 13.04 to 13.10 failed due to dependency conflicts

i re- ran the update to check if updates today would fix it but still fails
uploading new log files

after removal of unity and gnome kubuntu looks like it is upgrading, at
least it got further and is downloading new packages..... 4 hours of
downloads to go
