Bug Description

Hi folks,

We noticed that when a Ubuntu 13.10 VM is created on Windows Server 2008 R2, the graphical output is corrupted. The situation is so grave that one cannot even install Ubuntu 13.10 on Windows Server 2008R2. The patch below fixes the problem so please include it:

https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/2974481/

I have also attached the patch. Please let us know if you need more information.

Thanks,
Abhishek

Ok I have pulled this specific fix into a saucy kernel for testing. Could you test this kernel and confirm that it does indeed fix the issue for you. Kernel is at the link below:

Please report any testing back here.

It appears that the driver is not there in the patches provided. Also please could you merge the patch for https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1234417 with this bug so that we can boot the system.

Thanks,
Abhishek

It appears that this is not a problem for Ubuntu 13.10 server as the installation mode is primarily text based. However, Microsoft will still like to get this fix included as it seems that people install Ubuntu client as well on a regular basis (See bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1199345).

I would like to apply this patch but I don't see any instructions how to do that. Can anyone show me? I am fairly new to the Linux world. I have the Ubuntu 13.10 installation in an ISO file and when I start it up in my Windows 2008 Hyper V, I get the problem described here and I cannot install Ubuntu. Do I have to inject this code somewhere in the ISO? which folder? and what name/extension should I save this patch code as?
