The frame rate is low, unless using --indirect-rendering

Binary package hint: compiz

Compiz has a low frame rate and random-ish pauses in movement, unless I run it with --indirect-rendering.

The compiz wrapper script probably should add the parameter automatically with my GPU. I’m using the proprietary nvidia driver.

Results with the benchmark plugin:

--indirect-rendering:
• idle: 59.9 FPS (my screen’s refresh rate is 60 Hz)
• typing to a terminal: 55 – 59 FPS (the benchmark plugin itself seems to slow everything down quite a bit; it’s smoother without the plugin)
• switching between workspaces rapidly: 55 – 59 FPS

Without --indirect-rendering:
• idle: 27 – 28 FPS
• typing to a terminal: 23 – 27 FPS
• switching between workspaces rapidly: 15 FPS

compiz (1:0.5.1+git20070703-0ubuntu1) gutsy; urgency=low

  * debian/compiz.wrapper:
    - pass "--indirect-rendering" to compiz if required
      (Fixes LP: #122562)
    - fix driver detection when driver are loaded and unloaded
      (Fixes LP: #122604)
    - add some extra-paranoia for the logfile detection

Thanks for your work, but it isn’t quite fixed yet. The compiz wrapper still doesn’t add --indirect-rendering automatically.
