Bug Description

Binary package hint: kate

Kubuntu provides updated kde 3.5.7 packages for feisty at http://kubuntu.org/packages/kde-357.
This is not officially part of feisty yet it is distributed through kubuntu servers, so I guess it is reasonable to post a bug here.

The kate package:

kate 3.5.7-0ubuntu1~feisty1

has a serious regression with regard to

kate 3.5.6-0ubuntu20.1

distributed with the feisty updates.

Specifically, it systematically crashes on exit.
The bug has been resolved upstream (see http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=147195).
So it would be very nice to provide an updated package with the fix.

Thanks

Will it be possible to get an updated feisty package in http://kubuntu.org/packages/kde-357 in the meantime?
Or at least to remove kate 3.5.7 altogether from http://kubuntu.org/packages/kde-357, so that the system does not update the former 3.5.6 (that was working better) to 3.5.7?

Many thanks

Please,

before changing the status to fix-released, since this bug was first reported for feisty that is still the official stable kubuntu, can you make an updated package available for feisty? Understand that kate, as a kde application, has tons of build dependencies, so for most it is not really an option to get the kate-3.5.7 source package, patch it, and rebuild it.

Just in case the feisty updated package is not released, let me offer a couple of workarounds for those who might have installed kde-3.5.7 and now have a crashing kate:

Workaround #1:
- apparently you can install kate-3.5.6 alongside with kde-3.5.7 so downgrading just kate to 3.5.6 will give you back a working kate. The funny thing is that this working kate will pretend to be part of kde 3.5.7.

Workaround #2:
- with the above, if you keep the kde-3.5.7 repo in the apt sources.list (to get updates if any) you will get the adept notifier always on, telling you that there are updated packages available. To avoid it, you can unpack the kate-3.5.6 package with ar, edit its control file to bump up the rev number, pack it again with ar and install it.
