Dropdown box for source code rendering is slow to use

Bug Description
The dropdown links require two clicks to see a file, are not alphabetically sorted (see comment 3 of bug 1203583), and do not support quick string search (e.g. with Ctrl-F).

The dropbox form element for choosing the file for source code rendering isn't very user friendly.
Instead, the collection of links provided by the manage.
Especially for a large charm with *lots* of files, like Apache2. It has many hooks, and it's a lot easier to see all of them in front of me at once, and use Ctrl-f to find the one I'm looking for (website-
In the dropbox approach, it's really difficult, involves multiple clicks, and it's difficult to find files.

We initially had design ideas to list the source files down the left side of the charm details and open the source next to it. That might help, but we killed that due to the complex "3-wide" issues it brought up in the sidebar view where the sidebar, then the list of files, and then content would require some separation help.
Perhaps a revisit to the idea would be useful.
