home icon loads 2nd copy of existing open windows

Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

I am using firefox v2.0.0.4. When I want to load a new tab, I either use Ctrl-T or File/New Tab to load a new window. When I click on the home icon, FF loads multiple windows identical to those already open, instead of just loading my home page.
I have tested this on a single window. I load a new window and all previously open windows are displayed, instead of one blank window. So, no matter what I do, every time I try to load a new blank page and go home, I end up with numerous identical windows.

I haven't uninstalled/reinstalled FF but will try this after reporting this.

Hi Robert

Start Firefox
On my machine, when I do this, Firefox opens with a set of previously opened
windows, instead of one window displaying my home page (www.google.com.au)
Crt-T to open new tab.
In new tab Click on home icon. A copy of all open windows loads, including
the requested new home page.

This also happens when I load a new window, using menu commands or shortcut
keystrokes. Loading a new window also opens copies of previously open
windows.

I have unistalled/reinstalled using the package manager app.

If there is anything else you need, please let me know.

Thanks
Sarah

You are using the Australian language pack, correct?

Hi again

I have figured it out! Your colleague (Robert?) asked if I was using the
Australian Language Pack. I presumed I was, but went to check in
Preferences.

If you look at the main tab under Home Page, if you only have one page open
when setting your home page, the tab for Using the page you are on now says
Use Current PAGE.

If you have multiple windows open when you set your home page, the tab will
say Use Current PAGES. Therefore no matter what page you are trying to set,
if you have more than one window open, FF will set all those windows as
Home.

I have never had this happen when I was using FF in Windows, so perhaps I
have found a different bug?

I have now set my Home page by loading only one window before clicking the
Current page icon.

If you would like screenshots, just let me know.

Your turn!

Sarah

Thanks for your perseverance with replicating the bug.

Unfortunately, it isn't a real bug. Use current pages sets all of the currently open pages to home by design.

An easier way to set home is to just drag the tab, or icon by the URL, into the home icon.

Hi Roberto

Seeing as I work in application support you would think I would have figured
it out earlier myself!

I didn't notice this in FF for Windows. Is the set home pageS only in the
Linux version?

Anyway, thanks for your help with this. At least I don't have 20 windows
appearing every time I want to go home lol

Thanks
Sarah
