Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon 7.10 Tribe 1 is unable to mount NTFS or FAT32 disks.

Feisty Fawn (7.04) and Edgy Eft (6.10) were both able to mount the NTFS or FAT32 disks. You could read from the NTFS disks but could not write to them. The FAT32 Disks could be read from and written to. But, after installing Gutsy Gibbon I find that it cannot mount the disks.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. I able to successfully mount NTFS partitions on my laptop using up to date Gutsy Gibbon. Could you please elaborate as to the process you take to mount your NTFS and FAT32 partitions? Do you receive any error messages when you try to mount the partition? If so what are they? Yes all the partitions show up in the computer place I receive the error message when I click on one of the ntfs partitions.

Ah, so you need to install the package 'ntfs-3g' to make this work. We need to review it and promote to main, and install it by default (desktop seed).

For an immediate fix for tribe-2 we should probably flip ntfs-3g back to the kernel ntfs driver in gnome-mount. I'll look into that.

I just tried it on a local hard disk partition, with gnome-mount and
hal, that worked just fine. What do you mean? I just installed the

Probably not. It is very young, needs a proper audit first, and does
not even work with our sudo-based authentication mechanism.

But you forget about non gnome users. We don't have gnome-mount here. I don't see any problems with PolicyKit on my FreeBSD box it's just work. At least you can include it into distribution and disable it by default or create a .deb package, because currently users don't have any choice. And this is really a big problem.

I downloaded this version on the weekend, and so far the visual effects and the performance is awesome, but I have this very same problem with my XP disk, I have already XP and Ubuntu 7.04. I booted with this CD and when I try to access it on "Computer" I can see it but not mount it, the same error as Brian, then I tried to apt-get the ntfs-3g, but it seems it is not in the 4 original repositories, and tried "gnome-mount -vbd /dev/sda1" and I have a very similar output as above.

I believe that this is still an issue in Tribe 3.
Plugging in my ntfs usb disk brings up the unable to mount ntfs-3g error, a simple apt-get install ntfs-3g fixes this.
