I did not close firefox. I clicked the firefox icon in the main screen .
But firefox refuse to start. It said"Firefox is already running, but is not responding. ..... restart your system" -_-

I remember seeing this bug already reported. I tagged it likely-dup, this tag is a way for us to keep track of bugs we think ot have seen before and needs to be found and marked as a dupe of the 1st bug reported. Set to incomplete awaiting search on a dupe.

I really wished this got fixed. Now I cannot use firefox on my laptop at home because it wouldn't start on my laptop screen. My second screen is a LCD at office. Damn I am stuck with Opera and Google Notebook wouldn't support it.

As an Ubuntu Fans, for me, whether this bug is "likely-dup", is not
important.
My concern is that this bug should be resolved.

The judgement, about whether a bug is "likely-dup", will not solve the
problem.

Please leave the tag set. Me setting the tag was not for you but for mozilla-bugs team.
As i recall this bug was never fixed and its not so much a bug as it is a feature people want added. since using 2 screens is just the same as using one still only one instance of firefox can be open at a time, please report this upstream and give us the upstream bug URL on this bug.

This is easy to work round.

   1. Close all Firefox windows and run the following on your terminal:

      firefox -ProfileManager

   2. Create a new profile, say “Second Screen.” Keep the checkbox “Don’t ask on startup” selected and click “Exit”.
   3. On your secondary monitor, modify the Firefox launcher by right clicking on the icon on your Panel and selecting “Properties”. Change the “Command” to:

      firefox %u -p SecondScreen

   4. That’s it. Enjoy indepently configurable Firefox on both screens now!

Use of multiple profiles needs documenting on the wiki or other.

I haven't tried the workaround in comment 5 as I have switched to twinview but this bug/missing feature is still present in intrepid
