Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

After returning to normal window size from being fullscreen, if I click on the Firefox title bar, it becomes inactive (grayed out), and the three window control buttons on the title bar are disabled. If another program was running, it will switch to that program when the title bar is clicked. If I right click on the Firefox bar at the bottom of the desktop, and click “Resize,” the mouse becomes a small hand icon and Linux locks up. The only way to recover from this is to reboot.

Steps to recreate the bug:

F11
F11
right click on Firefox bar at bottom of desktop
click “Resize”

This occurs every time. It occurs on two Linux systems, but not on my Windows XP system.

Firefox version:
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1.4) Gecko/20061201 Firefox/2.0.0.4 (Ubuntu-feisty)

Well, scratch the part about it occurring on two linux systems, it only occurs on one. So I guess Firefox just needs to be reinstalled?

Ok, I disabled all add-ons but it still occurs. I reinstalled Firefox and no change. A correction to steps to recreate the bug, it occurs after the second time I go fullscreen, so to recreate it:

click “Resize”

I don't know.. It seems to only be happening on my laptop, I've reinstalled
Firefox and it still happens. I don't know what else needs to be done,
maybe reinstall Feisty?

Are we sure this isnt an X issue as it only happens on one of your systems. Im assuming you have different video cards on the 2 systems? do both have 3d drivers installed? Before we can fix this issue we need to determine what is causing it. We need a sure fire way to reproduce this as it may be a firefox rendering issue but there is no way to tell atm. Please provide as much info on firefox and X that you can for both systems

Yes, there are different video cards on the two systems. The (good) desktop system has an Nvidia card and the (bad) laptop has ATI. I don't know how to tell if 3D is enabled. Also I don't know how to get further info on the Firefox installations, other than what's on the About popup. By X do you mean the xorg.conf file? Sorry for my ignorance, I've been using Ubuntu for about six months...

ok can you give me what it says if you type about:plugins in the address bar. Also if you open /etc/X11/xorg.conf either using a text editor or using file browser to navigate there i need the sections that look like the following:

Section "Device"
Identifier "nVidia Corporation NV34 [GeForce FX 5200]"
        Driver "nvidia"
        BusID "PCI:2:09:0"
EndSection

for both pcs. Also can you tell me if you installed and enabled beryl or compiz on either pc.

Just a few more things ... this only occurs from a maximized window, that is, if you do the F11 sequence when the window is maximized. Also, on my "good" system, Picasa is doing the same thing, (e.g. click 'resize' and Ubuntu locks up.) so I'm even more stumped, now that it occurs on two separate systems, in two different applications! With Picasa now doing it, I'm inclined to think this is not a Firefox bug.

This doesn't seem to happen all the time. Sometimes it just doesn't happen anymore. I've also noticed that double pressing F11 (fullscreen / cancel fullscreen) doesn't save the maximized state of the firefox window.
