Bug Description

Continuation from bug #1179920. The most annoying part of that bug was fixed, ie. the persistence of the triggered empty windows after quitting the program. However they still appear on the develop page even with new Qt Creator upstream version 2.7.1. The problem appeared with Qt 5.0.2.

Bumping the priority as this is now approaching 3 months
Note that the issue with 1179920 will reappear if anyone runs the standard qtc rather than the SDK flavor

Also happens on design mode. Many small blank windows with title "Qml2Puppet" shows up when pressing design button on a fresh created project. The problem appears on qtcreator 2.7.1-0ubuntu1~precise1~test18.

The QtC comes from the upstream as it comes. We do not have the competence or resource to address the truly annoying bugs in the main QtC .

This issue is confirmed and it is really annoying, but it does not block any key functionality or feature in the Ubuntu Touch application development. So I would not flag it as "Critical".

The issue is confirmed to be be fixed in the 2.8 version of the QtC and we will get the fix when we move on to the 2.8 from the 2.7.1.

I marked this bug as Fix Committed for lp:qtcreator-plugin-ubuntu as Qt Creator 2.8 has been released in PPA.

True, although it was found out that it was really fixed when QtC 2.8 is used in combination with Qt 5.1.1. But for QtC part it's fixed in PPA.

Ubuntu Saucy beta
Using ppa:ubuntu-sdk-team/ppa to get QtC 2.8
QtCreator 2.8.1
Qt 5.0.2
Enable or disable Crodova and Ubuntu plugin produce same result.
Getting garbage windows when switching tabs (Develp, Examples or Tutorials) on the Welcome screen.

I thought it was fixed in ppa with 2.8 version? Am I missing something? Thanks.

As mentioned in my comment above, it turned out that the bug needs both Qt 5.1 and QtCreator 2.8. Qt 5.1 was aimed to have in Ubuntu already but because of some regressions on Unity8 on device it was postponed a bit.

If wanted, Qt 5.1 is usable on desktop by adding ppa:canonical-qt5-edgers/qt5-beta-proper and dist-upgrading. It will also come to the official PPA:s and Ubuntu 14.04 repositories in a month or two.

This bug was fixed in the package qtcreator - 2.8.1-0ubuntu1

---------------
qtcreator (2.8.1-0ubuntu1) trusty; urgency=low

  [ Pino Toscano ]
  * Disable -Werror when building, as could potentially break depending on
    compiler/architecture; patch no-Werror.diff.

  [ Timo Jyrinki ]
  * New upstream release. (LP: #1181192)
  * Drop patches:
    - debian/patches/prefer_qmake_to_qmake-qt4.patch, merged upstream
    - debian/patches/03_fix_DOCPATH.diff, not needed anymore
  * Refresh patches:
    - debian/patches/botan_system_lib.diff
    - debian/patches/rpath_nonlinux.diff
  * Create qtcreator-dev to be able to build plugins from
    external sources
  * Pick 2.8 changes from Debian:
    - Manually call qmake in order to avoid a FTBFS due to dh passing -nocache.
Upstream uses caches to put default data for building, so we need them.
    - Compiler flags
  * Update *.install, drop qtcreator.install.linux as not needed anymore
  * No need for override_dh_shlibdeps anymore, dropped
  * Install 'qmlproject' extension handling mimetype (LP: #1233099)

I confirm the same problem with qtcreator (version: 2.8.1-0ubuntu1~saucy1~test6) in saucy (13.10).
Do you plan to fix it in saucy-release too?

I can confirm the same bug still exists in 2.8.1-0ubuntu1 in the trusty libraries. Is it going to be fixed in the package, are will we just wait for Qt5.1?

We skipped Qt 5.1 because of problems with that and now it's Qt 5.2 that will be hopefully uploaded soon. Also there this problem is fixed, but there is no identified single patch that could be backported to the older Qt unfortunately.
