Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

... Firefox crashed

I had firefox open as the only application.. two tabs open, one with yahoo mail and the other with the ubuntu forums web page.
I tried to click a link in ubuntu forums and firefox stopped responding and then died.

Strangely.. I noticed that often when I visit the ubuntu site the browser seems to hang for a few seconds (normally the first time I load it after rebooting).

Also have NoScript installed.

Thank you rax_m for submitting this report.

Could you please try to obtain a backtrace by following the instructions on
[1], or upload the crash report that probably was generated during the crash
and that should be located at /var/crash/ to [2].

Please indicate which extensions/plugins do you have enabled; and if this crash
is reproducible describe the steps that lead to it (it is very important for us
to have a test case for each crash).

This will greatly aid us in tracking down your problem.

Thanks in advance.

Hi

I'm having problems uploading the 20MB file at the moment.. the internet seems generally slow for me at the moment, so probably a local network issue... or everyone trying to use up their bandwidth at the end of the month. I will post the fix when things improve.

Thanks
Rax

Hi

I've tried multiple times to load this crash report.. but unfortunately my crippled upstream (128Kb) just doesn't seem to cope with the 20MB before launchpad times out..

Any other way I can get this file to you?

Cheers
Rax

Thanks rax_m for your feedback,

Indeed we need the crash report to retrace it with debug symbols in order to get an idea of what happened. So if you have some free time you might want to retrace the crash yourself. If so follow the next steps:

First install the debug symbols for firefox (~ 45Mb)
~$ sudo apt-get install firefox-dbg

Then copy and paste in a xterm the following command:

TMPDIR=$(mktemp -d)
apport-unpack /var/crash/_usr_lib_firefox_firefox-bin.1000.crash $TMPDIR
gdb -nx /usr/lib/firefox/firefox-bin -core $TMPDIR/CoreDump -ex 'backtrace full' -ex 'thread apply all backtrace full' -ex 'quit' 2>&1 | tee gdb.log
rm -fr $TMPDIR

Finally upload the gdb.log text file to [1].

Also it will be very interesting for us that you try to repeat the crash and describe the steps that make it happen.

Thank you in advance.
