Bug Description

The icon "Install Kunbuntu 13.04" shows a name in the status bar but then after a few seconds exits quietly with no warnings or error messages. It should launch the graphical installer. This is on the Kubuntu PPC live cd from 20130423.1

== RELEASE NOTES TEXT ==

 * Installs on very small memory systems may fail to start or exit without completing with no error. It is recommended that swap be created before install for such systems. Please see advice about adding and activating swap at: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SwapFaq ([[https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-release-notes/+bug/1172161 | LP: #1172161)

But it works sometimes?

It works part way. Sometimes it gets farther than other times, but it has not yet run through to the end.

OK. Thanks for testing.

If you can get it to work at least once, I think we can probably release it with a big warning label.

I've got two more things to try:

1)
sudo mv /usr/share/live-installer/slideshow/index.html
/usr/share/live-installer/slideshow/index.html.bak
and then start the live installer

2)
run ubiquity --debug

'ubiquity --debug' produced no output and did not run to completion

"sudo mv /usr/share/ubiquity-slideshow/slides/index.html /usr/share/ubiquity-slideshow/slides/index.html.bak" seems to work, though the installation is quite slow.

For S it's tempting to disable the slideshow on powerpc, or maybe on all machines below some minimum memory requirement.

That might work, but about the memory requirement, the machine does have 1GB RAM:

Since this was in the Release Notes for Raring, marking this as high and targetting explicitly for Saucy and Raring so it doesn't get overlooked.

There seems to be no further support for the PPC with Kubuntu. At least there is no release for PPC to test this on:
