Bug Description

After connecting to a local wifi network, Ubuntu 13.04 (and 12.10) will log out randomly. 2 out of 3 times I am able to turn of the wifi, then turn it back on and connect. One third of the time it disconnects and will not re-enter despite restarting, forgetting network, configuring network, ect. This has occurred on multiple different wifi networks and routers. I have a HP dv6 laptop with a Ralink corp. RT5390 Wireless 802.11n 1T/1R PCIe. I have been told that this doesn't occur with Wicd Network Manager if that helps. Thanks, Adam.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1171281/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.10 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.

Would it also be possible for you to disable 11n to see if it works around this issue? It can be disable by setting:

I tried to run:

apport-collect 1171281

but the output is:

"ERROR: The launchpadlib Python module is not installed. This functionality is not available."

This corresponds to another bug, this one: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/1071905.

In any case I've changed the status of this bug to "Confirmed".

@Joseph Salisbury (jsalisbury) : unfortunately i tried to install kernel 3.10, but on my pc the problem remains usolved...

Another thing: with kernel 3.10 I can't either connect with ethernet... strange. Only when I went back on "3.8.0-25-generic" I could resume my ethernet connection.

Then, I tried to open "/etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf": in which point should I add the line you wrote?

Here the content of my "iwlwifi.conf":

"# /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf
# iwlwifi will dyamically load either iwldvm or iwlmvm depending on the
# microcode file installed on the system. When removing iwlwifi, first
# remove the iwl?vm module and then iwlwifi.
remove iwlwifi \
(/sbin/lsmod | grep -o -e ^iwlmvm -e ^iwldvm -e ^iwlwifi | xargs /sbin/rmmod) \
&& /sbin/modprobe -r mac80211"
