The issue is that the service used to get the location id (woeid) has been discontinued some months ago.

There is a new one:
http://developer.yahoo.com/geo/geoplanet/guide/api_docs.html#api_overview

But the access is restricted by an appid key and the one from the old service is not valid, whoever is maintaining indicator-weather should register for a new one and port the code to the new api there...

Is anyone wanting to work on that soon? Or should we get the source dropped from raring (no point to allow new installation if no location can be configured)...

importance: Undecided → High

I've been going back and forth on whether to file a removal bug on this for awhile now, but this might be the last straw. As the person who originally uploaded this to Ubuntu, every bug that comes through my inbox pains me. Upstream development has stopped, and there doesn't seem to be anyone interested in taking it over AFAICT. The number of installs shows that there is a lot of demand for something like this, bug the number of bugs shows that its quality just isn't up to par...

Ok, I'm turning that bug report into a request to remove the source from raring, we can add it back next cycle if somebody picks it up to fix the issues

I'm unsubscribing ubuntu-archive now since there's still an upstream task on this bug, and this way it doesn't remain on our to-do list. Feel free to resubscribe us if there turns out to be some other action for us to take.

Thanks Joshua, that's being worked:
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel/2013-May/037180.html

We got the new pywapi in:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pywapi/0.3.3~svn147-1

Which means indicator-weather can be updated next

Running 12.04. I subscribed to this bug because I could not add locations in 11.11.28, and the same thing occured after updating to rainy7. However, I should have checked the weather source, as changing to weather.com solved the issue completely. No problem adding new locations, and in addition, forecast works faultlessly (for the first time?). Cheers, H.

Yep, this application is still broken in 12.04.3 LTS.
