Bug Description
Binary package hint: libopenbabel1
The OpenBabel version should be upgraded to 2.1 for Gutsy Gibbon.
OpenBabel 2.1 has been released on April 7, see http://
The current packaged version, 2.0.2, is not recent enough for some apps that users may want to run by the time Gutsy is out:
1) Kalzium in KDE 4.0 requires OpenBabel 2.1 for the 3D-viewer feature
2) Avogadro (http://
By the way, the package name libopenbabel1 is misleading as it seems to suggest the version is 1.x. Maybe rename it to libopenbabel ?
Cheers,
Benoit (a Kalzium, OpenBabel, Avogadro developer)

Hi Benoit,
This is being handled in Debian currently, Michael Banck, et. al are still working on a few issues [0]. We will make sure to sync openbabel 2.1 once it hits Debian unstable. We do indeed need it for other apps (gchemutils is another).
