Volume control applet icon does not update

Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-media

Using gnome-applets 2.18.0-3ubuntu5 on gutsy

If I change the volume using the applet slider then the icon isn't changed (to mute, speaker with 1 bar, 2 bars etc) and the tooltip isn't changed.

If i remove the applet, and re-add it then the icon is correct, however it then still doesn't update when further changed.

The context menu item for mute/unmute does change the icon, when the volume is not already muted.

Maybe this is related to 20_mixer-applet_use_gstreamer_notify.patch

Confirmed, as mentionned on IRC the only recent change to gnome-applets is the gstreamer notify patch, Ccing Matthew about it

Yes I have the same thing :

crontroling the volume trough mixer or key shortcut on keyboard does not chang the display in applet, and controling the volume in the applet while having the mixer open seems to change the display in the mixer.

So the applet seems to not be able to read others programm modifications (mute/volume etc) to mixer setting, but is able to modify them correctly.

Same for me here, actually the icon stopped to update itself when I changed the device being controlled by the applet (from headphones to analog front). It doesn't become aware of the change or something.

Also, I wonder if it should be reported as another bug or if it's part of the same bug, but the little program activated when I change the volume with the keyboard still changes the headphone volume.

I think that you have to look elsewhere to change what controls the keyboard shortcut (I never remember where thought)

You dropped the patch... does this mean that now the applet does
polling? If so this is bad...
