Bug Description

I use ubuntu as my work OS for programming, however the temparature rises to 60-70+ °C even when I am not doing anything on my laptop, on 12.04 LTS it would only go that high if I was running some high performance cost Java software or compiling a lot of data, I understand the issue is due to graphical drivers not working correctly, I have tried to install AMD proprietary drivers and it did not solve anything.

current OS 12.04 just downgraded from 12.10

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.9 kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

I would very much appreciate for you to stop sending me around on trivial tasks that solve nothing, I did mention I use Ubuntu as my main development environment, now I assume you're a developer yourself and I also assume you know that we are not willing to risk our environment on beta or development releases that have not yet had their stability confirmed.

I'll make an exception this time.

so, after testing the mainline kernel my internet and other drivers stopped working and guess what, it's still overheating, now I have the incredible joy and privilege to fix this manually thank god for dual boot so I can at least save my projects.

Dayvi, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number>
