I have this bug also after upgrading to Raring. I have also tried 0.103ubuntu0.7 and rebuild the initramfs. No luck, at boot it drops to busybox and exit command does nothing, it spawns busybox again. At /dev/disks i have only the dvd drive, not a single hdd is shown.
If i boot the system with the old kernel from 12.10 (3.5.0.26) all is working great.

Can you follow the "Boot options" instructions on the following wiki to enable additional output on boot:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelBoot

As mentioned on the wiki, it would be great if you can attach a log file which may have captured any messages you see. If you are unable to capture a log file, a digital photo will work just as well. As a last resort you can even copy messages down by hand.

I think the problem is bigger because i have downloaded the latest dayly build and booted off the cd. The installer and also "Try Ubuntu" don't see any of my hdds. No devices under /dev/sd*, only the CD Drive.
With kernel 3.5.0.26 i have no such problems!
The MB it is an "Asrock 890FX Deluxe 4", AMD 890FX chipset.

I'd like to perform a bisect to figure out what commit caused this regression. It would be very helpful to know the earliest kernel where the issue started happening as well as the latest kernel that did not have this issue.

Can you test the following kernels and report back? We are looking for the first kernel version that exhibits this bug:

v3.6 final: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.6-quantal/
v3.7 final: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.7-raring/
v3.8-rc1: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.8-rc1-raring

You don't have to test every kernel, just up until the kernel that first has this bug.

One thing to note, you will need to install both the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.

 Thanks in advance!

@Joseph Salisbury
Hi i have tested 2 kernels:
3.6 - boots fine (same video problems)
3.7 - drops to busybox but before it throws:
AMD-Vi: Event logged: INVALID DEVICE REQUEST

Should i test the 3.8 rc1, i have just recover from a unity failure because of 3.6 kernel?
Thank you again.

I have also tried 3.8.4 kernel, same drop to busybox, same error:

This is the output of lshw (attached) run in Raring with 3.5.0.26 kernel.

Just to confirm, you don't see this bug with the 3.8.0-11 kernel, per comment #42?

The 3.8.0-11 and 3.8.0-12 kernels are both based off of upstream v3.8.2, so maybe this is related to an Ubuntu SAUCE patch.

Can you test the following mainline kernels, just to confirm you don't see the bug:

v3.8.1: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.8.1-raring/
v3.8.2: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.8.2-raring/

I have found out a solution for my problem, if i disable from BIOS AMD IOMMU than the system boots with any kernel from 3.7 and up.
If i have the option enabled then the system only boots with a kernel version lower then 3.6.
Should this problem be reported as a different bug?
Thank you.
