Bug Description

When I change users the trackpad doesn't seem to work at all for the new users. When I keyboard navigate back to the 'first' user the trackpad works. If I fully log out of a user, then log into the new one, the trackpad works as well as it ever does.

Thanks for your bug report. Lets try this first - after you log in as the new user go to System > Preferences > Touchpad. Increase the sensitivity and make sure the "Enable Touchpad" box is checked.

If this does not work please provide your system76 model number. You'll find it by going to System > Administration > System76 Driver and looking at the System Information tab.

I've confirmed this bug on my Darter. The Synaptic touchpad seems disabled when switching from my user to another user account. User permissions are not an issue.

Any suggestions or things I could try? I'm sort of lost for a start point on this one...

Thanks

This appears to be a known bug in Feisty (and maybe even in Edgy).

There are some proposed workarounds at that link, but I've found all of them to be
a bit intermittent in their success.

I see the issue on an IBM T41. It has been there in Feisty, and it is still there on Gutsy as of 2007-08-23. The mouse pointer cannot be moved with the trackpad as soon as the second user login screen appears. A connected Apple Mighty Mouse works (with 1D scrolling). I would guess this is a duplicate of 68370 as well (but I post here, because this is tagged "medium", while the other is low (which is inappropriate, given that user switching is enabled-by-default).

I think 39822 might be a related issue, too (but tagged as "not needing to be fixed"??!):
https://bugs.launchpad.net/debian/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/39822

I actually have a use case, where this laptop is used for a DJ/media performance. The environment is a bit low on space and somewhat "hostile", so a mouse would be extremely inconvenient. I and other operators perform on it under a generic account. I want access to my personal account in breaks without quitting the media applications.
