Bug Description

Binary package hint: planetpenguin-racer

The menus in planet penguin racer are unreadable. They show up as dashes at various heights; some long, some short; some thick, some thin.

By moving the mouse pointer about and seeing what gets highlighted and when, it looks to me as if the dashes are level with the tops of the letters that are supposed to be in their place. I therefore assume that the lengths of the dashes correspond to the widths of the letters. Thus the dash corresponding to a "d" would appear higher than that corresponding to an "m", but would also be shorter.

This problem reminds me of a problem wine can have rendering pull-down menus if it is not configured correctly.

I know there are lots of games in the repositories with bugs, but I would be very grateful if you could give this one a slightly higher priority. This is because it is non-violent, not too frenetic, and doesn't require advanced motor skills. In other words it is one of the few 3D games in ubuntu that are suitable for young children.

This is also the case for me on my AMD64 system running feisty. I have not found a workaround.

I'm having the same problem after my upgrade to feisty. Before upgrade everything was working fine.
Now all labels are unreadable and the game runs much slower (~5-10 fps).
Reinstall doesn't help.

I don't have the problem of the game running incredibly slowly. However today planet penguin racer launched with hardware acceleration disabled (due to a probably unconnected x.org bug) and the menus etc. were all readable. So it looks like an opengl thing of some sort.

I am using the x.org radeon driver.

Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 beta?
