Bug Description

hi
i have a desktop pc:

amd 64 processor
2 gig ram
nvidia geforce 7300 gt
dlink dwl 520g
using feisty fawn 64 bits

i have seen that other people are having the same problem, but always on laptops
i had a different graphics adaper before (from ati) and i had the same problem
after resuming from suspend, my screen stays black and there is nothing i can do about it, not even ctrl-alt-del: in fact, i have to take the machine from the power supply for a couple seconds and then turn it on again in order to get the screen back on, otherwise the machnie starts with the screen turnt off!
also, i found that resume after hibernate doesnt work properly either. yesterday after resuming from hibernate, the x system would constantly freeze and i had to press ctrl-alt-backspace to get it running again, but it would freeze over and over again so i had to restart the computer so that itd work properly again

i would really appreciate if someone came up with a fix for this

martin

Thank you for your bug report. Can you indicate whether you have this issue when using the open source nv driver and whether caps lock works after you resume?

Hi,
for some strange reason, I dont get the nv driver to work. I get an
error "Failed to start the X server". But I tried with the vesa driver
and even with that one I am having this problem.

Punting from Ubuntu -> linux-source-2.6.20 because this problem occurs with the vesa driver too.

Do you think there is any fix for it?

An interesting question. I suspect there is a fix but you need to narrow down which driver is causing the problem. You might want to take a look at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend ...

Er that page doesn't describe any solutions. It just decribes how you might (no guarantees) be able to tell whether a particular driver is the cause of the problem...

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug does not meet the criteria for a stable release update and is being marked as Won't Fix for this particular version of the kernel. You can learn more about the stable release update process at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates .
However, the issue that you reported is one that should be possible to test with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Gutsy Gibbon. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the actively developed kernel. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ .
If you do decide to test with the development release of Ubuntu please comment on this bug report and include at least the minimal information requested at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies . Thanks again and we appreciate your help.
