horizontal scrolling missing from mouse/touchpad control in gnome-control-center

Horizontal scrolling is missing - this is an important feature in mouse and touchpad controls, especially for smaller screens (such as netbooks).

go to a terminal and type:

dconf write /org/gnome/settings-daemon/peripherals/touchpad/horiz-scroll-enabled
true

it works for me, anyways. (found as an answer on the ubuntuforums)
