Bug Description

Steps to reproduce:
1. Place random window on screen 1 and maximize it
2. Click the workspace switcher
3. Go to viewport 3 (column 1, row 2)
4. Click on the workspace switcher
5. In the launcher, click on the window from step 1.

These steps will get you to window 3 even though logically you should be on window 1.

There are several other inconsistencies that manifest with windows between workspaces and some others that manifest sporadically (which I cannot really recall right now)

The situation I could not recall was when you place the window on half of the screen by pushing it to the left border of pushing it to the right border. It amanifests the same as bug above, but it only acts in a situation like if step 1 has window on screen 1 and the window on the right half and in step 3 you witch to screen 2 (column 2, row 1).

Is this the same problem as https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/878050?

Not entirely. This bug manifests even when the window is not spanning two
screens, but it is right on the edge.
