Bug Description

Samsung ML-2010 has a bug in firmware that prevents to print. The new version of splix (1.0.1-1) corrects this problem. Please update.
I'm using Feisty with package splix with version 1.0.1-0ubuntu1.

The problem affect upstream, from http://splix.ap2c.org/ :

"Saturday February, 10: A important bug, related to the ML-2010 printers has been fixed (it seems to be a printer firmware bug which has been solved by a workaround). This patch has been applied to the version 1.0.1-1."

Can you switch to the (more recent) LSB package from OpenPrinting?

Do (on 32-bit PCs):

sudo dpkg -p splix
sudo apt-get install lsb
wget http://www.openprinting.org/download/printdriver/RPMS/i486/splix-1.0.1-3lsb3.1.i486.rpm
sudo alien --scripts splix-1.0.1-3lsb3.1.i486.rpm
dpkg -i splix_1.0.1-4_i386.deb

Do (on 64-bit PCs):

sudo dpkg -p splix
sudo apt-get install lsb
wget http://www.openprinting.org/download/printdriver/RPMS/x86_64/splix-1.0.1-3lsb3.1.x86_64.rpm
sudo alien --scripts splix-1.0.1-3lsb3.1.x86_64.rpm
dpkg -i splix_1.0.1-4_x86_64.deb

The remove your printer queue and set it up again. Does your printer work now?

What I've done is build a new deb with the 1.0.1 sources and install it. Now I can print.
If you want I can try to install the rpm but I didn't realy want to install rpms into my machine.
If you want to know if the new sources works the answer is: yes, almost for my ML-2010.

Sorry I made a mistake in the previous post. Sources version is 1.0.1-1.

You do not need to install RPMs in Ubuntu for using the distribution-independent driver packages. The alien command in my instructions converts them to .deb packages which is the standard package format used by Ubuntu.

I know that alien convert rpms to debs but I noticed thet RPMS that you gave me installs into /opt. This is not exactly where I want my software. But ok, I've done what you told me (32 bit version) and my Samsung ML-2010 print again.

I can confirm that the ml-2010 does not print with the current version of the splix driver, but works fine with the 1.01-1 version. It would be great if the Gutsy package was updated. Thanks.

The problem has been identified, a fix is freely available. Is there any reason why this package has not yet been updated (other than a lack of time)? Are there any steps we can take to make sure the package gets updated in time for Gutsy?

Sorry, but I've gived away my ML-2010. There is someone else that could test it?

I just got my ML-2010R working with the package provided by Till. I installed it into Feisty with --force-depends and it's working fine while the Feisty version just prints stuff like:
INTERNAL ERROR - FALSE
POSITION: 0x11 (17)
SYSTEM: h6fwsim_mono/xl_tbl
LINE: 396
VERSION: SPL 5.05 01-04-2006

So thank you very much Till for the package; any plans to backport this to Feisty, btw? Oh, and gdi driver for the same printer cuts the left side of the print. Could me something to do with alignment or margins, but splix versio works just fine.

I have my ML-2010 connected to my desktop. On my Laptop running Intrepid, when I add my printer through the network, it tells me I need to install the "rastertospl2" program.

That's a cryptic message, since rastertospl2 used to be part of the splix package. The user should have have to search through the package arcive to figure out what package to install. The message should say "install splix" or something more useful.

The printer works fine without doing anything else. So not only is the message vague, but not needed.
