Offer 'save as...' functionality via button/ menu icon

Bug Description

Currently, CTRL + SHIFT + s implements the save as functionality. There is no 'user-friendly' way however to call this functionality (like a button in the toolbar or an entry in the application menu).

Sometimes, you want to save an edited version of a file as a new file so I think this functionality should be more visible to the end user.

it could be discussed for 1.2 release

The elementary philosophy is against a save/save as method. Maybe this could be done via contractor.

So if I want to modify a document but want to keep a backup as reference, I have to
1) open Files
2) navigate to the directory the document is located in
3) make a copy of the document
4) start editing the document

I don't think/ hope Elementary's philosophy is to make easy tasks hard... I'm really in favourite of rethinking UIs, but please keep in mind the simplicity Elementary targets should focus on an ultimate user experience, not on an as clean as possible user interface.

Kind regards,
Kurt

Another possibility would be to implement a "duplicate" method.
Right click on the opened document => duplicate => would duplicate the document with the same content.
Then the user could be prompted for a save location.

I think it'd probably make sense to just leave up the "Save As" button all the time until we come up with a more involved file management story for Scratch

As far as I am aware ctrl-shift-s does not allow save as in the luna release. It certainly doesn't work on my install right now, and it's a pretty significant inconvenience.

Is it all right if I work on fixing this? If so, am I just adding a Save As button in the toolbar, to the right of the Open and Save buttons?
