Feisty install fails

Bug Description

Binary package hint: debian-installer

Installing Feisty Fawn from alternate DVD iso fails with console-setup configure error.
I tried to install into existing LVM setup (being aware of Bug #105623 and the workaround), but install always fails with console-setup initscript failing to complete cleanly.

What log files should I attach from the install process?

It seems that /target/lib/modules/2.6.20-15-generic does not exist yet when volumeid package is installed and update-initramfs is invoked at first time.
I created the directory manually before d-i installed volumeid package and was able to complete the install without errors.

Mine failed as well. After looking at the logs, it appeared it has something to do with my ATI Mobility X1400:

(WW) VESA(0): No valid modes left. Trying less string filter...

Backtrace:
0: /usr/X11R6/bin/X(xf86SigHandler+0x81) [0x80c5d91]
1: [0xffffe420]

If anyone trying to fix the installer wants an extra tester, just let me know.

Were you perhaps installing onto a filesystem that already had some files in it? If so, the installer should have warned you that this might break.

Thank you for the response.

I wasn't able to make it to the installer; when trying to boot into Ubuntu from the CD, it gave me an error and sent me to the terminal.

It turned out that my video card is an ATI mobility X1400. and the installer didn't pick that up for some reason. I ended up installing Ubuntu 6, upgrading to 7, and installing my drivers from the terminal (once I upgraded, I was stuck with just the terminal again). Once I installed them and rebooted, everything worked fine. I understand that different distributions of laptops have slightly different video cards, so Ubuntu 7 may work fine on some ATI Mobility X1400's and not well on others (mine's a Dell Inspiron e1505).

If there's some way I can pitch in and test future distributions on my laptop before they are officially released, I'd be very interested.

Thanks again.

Colin, I created a new LV for Feisty from before installing, but I didn't create a filesystem inside the LV.
Installer gave no visible warnings about this during the install.

Can anyone confirm whether or not this bug has been fixed since Feisty?

Bug claims to be a Feisty-specific issue, and Feisty is no longer supported. As bug has had no activity since Gutsy was released, I am closing this as an Invalid bug.

Yes, I forgot I ever filed these bugs. The issue has been getting
progressively and Ubuntu is now at the point where compiz works just by
booting off the CD without changing anything. We all appreciate the hard
work.
