Related to bug#91064 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/restricted-manager/+bug/91064). The nVidia legacy drivers were missing an option in the Device section that keeps OpenGL from working even with the proper driver installed. Once the option was added and X restarted, OpenGL worked properly and xmoto ran as it should.
