Upgrade from Natty to Oneiric fails with extras repository activated

Bug Description

The upgrade from Natty to Oneiric fails if the extras repository is activated as Natty has been removed from extras.ubuntu.com and APT hits 404 when it tries to update the package information. In consequence Distribution Upgrader aborts the entire upgrade although the error doesn't really compromise the upgrade process.

[Workaround]

Disable extras repository:
1) Open Software Sources
2) Go to 'Other Software' tab
3) Uncheck both checkboxes for "Independent"

Then restart the upgrade.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.

The warnings indicate that something went wrong when Update Manager checked that all packages have the latest Natty versions installed. Did this error actually cause a total failure of the upgrade process or did the upgrade finish properly?

As Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal reached end of life on October 28, 2012 this won't be fixed unless it's actually blocking the upgrade to Oneiric.

This bug prevents me from upgrading to Oneric. After appearing, the update manager undoes operations and closes.

Ditto. I upgraded finally by putting a double-hash in front of the line with "extra" in sources.list. It was there because I had tried out KDE Trinity 3.5 at one time. Those Trinity packages must be gone or moved.

Thank you for the information.

As a temporary workaround, please follow Skewray's advice to disable the extras repository. A graphical way of doing that is to
1) Open Software Sources
2) Go to 'Other Software' tab
3) Uncheck both checkboxes for "Independent"

I'm marking this bug as confirmed.
