Bug Description

Ubuntu 12.10 live image written to a USB stick using the utility in Ubuntu 12.04.

ISO file matches MD5 hash.

On booting from USB stick, first screen with accessibility icons appears and dialog is functional but after that, i get a flasshing underline cursor in the top LHS position on the screen for a few seconds and then it crashes. If i enter the accessibility menu, i get the boot selection dialog after choosing the keyboard. Then, after selecting the try without installing option, it goes to the cursor and then crashes. If i don't do anything at the accessibility icon screen, after the timeout it goes immediately to the cursor and then crashes.

When i say "crashes", what actually happens is there's no further output to the screen. The monitor reports "no signal". There is a small amount of hdd activity after that, but then no sign of life. After a few minutes, i do a hard shutdown.

The system is a Shuttle XS35V3
CPU: Atom D2700
Chipset: N10/ICH7
VGA: Atom Processor D2xxx/N2xxx Integrated Graphics Controller

Ubuntu 12.04 runs on this system without problems (i'm using it to lodge this bug report).

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

Hello dose current OS on you computer still work. Did you live usb
crash effet them?
My laptop crash when I took ubuntu 12.10 for A live test.
It place garbage in the bios, or uefi, or video driver so
that my curent 12.04 would not run.
My laptop is still under warrety and had it sent off
for repairs. They changed out the mother board.
Ten days later i had it back
and runs fine. That live usb i put mint 13 on it, and works fine.
The install of mint 13 to the hard drive went ok.

I had Mint 13 working on the 8 gibbytes SSD that was built
into the mother board befor the crash. So i lost this OS
when the repair man swaped out the mother board.

I AM SCARED TO TRY PUT 12.10 ON MY LAPTOE AGAIN!

I hope when mint 14 come out they will remove that problem, but
thery are good at copying ubuntu bugs.

I might try ubuntu again if i here when they fix this problem
by not touching the current setting or have some kind of
app to reinstall defualt settings.

Will Kemp, could you please confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ . If the issue remains, could you please run the following command in Precise from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:
