I may not have been clear to explain further. Our new hardware has IOMMUV2 support and the associated driver which has been upstream needs to be made available. What steps need to be taken to make amd_iommu_v2.ko available on 12.10. Do I need to create a Debian package? Or?

If there are a series of commits from Linus' repo that apply clean;ly then we could consider SRU'ing into the Ubuntu kernel sources. Otherwise, linux-backports-modules is likely the right place. See git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ubuntu-quantal-lbm.git

Tim, the changes for IOMMUV2 where incorporated into Linux 3.3. Ubuntu 12.10 is Linux 3.5 based and as such it is a matter of simply enabling the default building of the kernel module.

the code is in tree, it's just a matter of making sure we have the kernel config option enabled.

The kernel .config file option needs to be: CONFIG_AMD_IOMMU_V2=m

This bug is awaiting verification that the kernel in -proposed (3.5.0-19.30) solves the problem. Please test the kernel and update this bug with the results. If the problem is solved, change the tag 'verification-needed-quantal' to 'verification-done-quantal'.

If verification is not done by one week from today, this fix will be dropped from the source code, and this bug will be closed.

See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Thank you!

Boot tested on an affected platform. Since this feature was not previously enabled I think there is little possibility for regression. Marking quantal-verification-done
