Looks like it was fixed in Angband trunk but never made it to debian. Someone needs to file a request to package it,

In fact I have packaged it twice and it rotted on mentors both times. I
await the motivation to try a third time.

I found that angband-audio is currently in the Debian New queue, so hopefully will be accepted soon (https://ftp-master.debian.org/new.html). I've attached a bug watch for the Debian bug related to packaging angband-audio so we should get an update once it is resolved.

As mentioned by the bug watch, this was fixed in Debian when angband-audio was packaged. It has since been synced to Ubuntu and is available/installable in Ubuntu Wily. Therefore I believe this issue is resolved.

For those who would be interested in potentially backporting this package to older Ubuntu releases, you may want to wait a while. The package does exist, but after installing it angband only seem to segfault when I attempt running it. I've filed bug 1477873 on this, as well as forwarding it to Debian since I was also able to reproduce it there.

Changed in angband (Ubuntu):
status: Confirmed → Fix Released
