ok after recent updates and probably changes to fstab file vcd is mounted

However it seems the media players have trouble reading it and takes a few seconds before it starts to play .

i want to attach my fstab file . Please tell me if its ok

basically my question is .

why is the /dev/hdb line in fstab ? shouldnt cd automount ?

In fact if i comment out this line with # , a dvd is still mounted .and so is data cd .

Only vcd seems to be issue .

I have some more data for u folks .

On a fresh install of beta , the vcd was mounted properly .I could see it under places in file browser

After the series of kernel changes , the vcd fails to mount properly . The media players struggle to play it .

Absolutely no problem with other media types/

After a kernel change it was scd0 then it is back as hdb .

Testing 2.6.20-15 and 2.6.20-12 fail when trying to 'cp /media/cdrom0/mpegav/avseq01.dat .' with permission denied. As root user I get "Input/output error."
'dd if=/dev/sr0 of=image.foo' also fails with an "Input/output error" with both 2.6.20-15 and 2.6.20-12.

VCDs cannot be mounted.
I have lots of error messages in /var/log/syslog after inserting any VCD.
The same VCDs are properly mounted in Kubuntu 6.10 amd64.

Original fstab CD-ROM config (does not work):
/dev/hdc /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto 0 0

My current fstab CD-ROM config (does not work):
/dev/hdc /media/cdrom0 auto user,noauto 0 0

fstab CD-ROM config in Edgy 6.10 (works OK in Edgy):
/dev/hdc /media/cdrom0 auto user,noauto 0 0

I use Xubuntu 7.04

I couldnt mount any VCD with 2.6.20-15 or 2.6.20-12. All the other formats are working ok.

with gxine I get a error windos but not show error message.

I play the VCD using the terminal with mplayer vcd://2

I would like to confirm this.

I did a fresh install of Kubuntu 7.04. Only the VCDs are not mounted. Data cds are automounted without any problem

A manual mount mounts the vcd but none of the media players can play the files. Kaffeine crashes when i try to open the .dat file from the vcd.

Hello

i dont think this bug is a duplicate of bug 43589 as that is about totem not playing vcd .That existed on dapper too.

This is a feisty specific problem and may also be related to not being able to copy dat files , though i cant find that bug report here

Dax Solomon Umaming (knightlust) wrote :

actually, no players can play any VCD. As for Bug #43589, the culprit is gstreamer which existed in Dapper and affected some players and seems to resurfaced in Feisty. A couple of affected upstreams are added which includes MPlayer, Gxine, and VLC. So this bug qualifies as a duplicate. Of course, I still need to get in touch with a few devs so we can clarify this issue. I appreciate your comments and will update this bug and Bug #43589 if once we have a word from them.

Hello all

This should make things clear ...........

On inserting a VCD , there is no icon appearing on the desktop in feisty hence the bug title . That did not happen in dapper .

Hi all.

just a side note for cdfs. The latest source code is version 2.6.19 (see http://trappist.elis.ugent.be/~mronsse/cdfs/download/) but the ubuntu source package cdfs-src in the repository is versioned 2.6.18 if I know the deb versioning right (filename pool/universe/c/cdfs-src/cdfs-src_2.4.20.a+2.6.18-1_all.deb). As I'm new to src debs, buildings debs and all that (besides using binary debs) if someone can point me to how to package I'd be happy to help updating. Or should I contact Ubuntu MOTU Developers about it?

Cheers.

Launchpad Janitor (janitor) wrote : This bug is now reported against the 'linux' package

Beginning with the Hardy Heron 8.04 development cycle, all open Ubuntu kernel bugs need to be reported against the "linux" kernel package. We are automatically migrating this bug to the new "linux" package. However, development has already began for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. It would be helpful if you could test the upcoming release and verify if this is still an issue - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . If the issue still exists, please update this report by changing the Status of the "linux" task from "Incomplete" to "New". We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make this transition. Thanks!
