Bug Description

Hi there,

I just upgraded to quantal in anticipation of its release. I've discovered that the linux-image-3.5.0-16 and -17 packages don't include several modules such as kernel/drivers/gpu/i915 oder kernel/drivers/net/ethernet/atheros/*

Is this an accident? Or is there another package that I must install? If so there should be some documentation about that.

Booting with a quantal-on-lts kernel works beatifully though :-)

Regards
Felix

Well, I admit, "importance" is in the eye of the beholder ;-) Any module required to boot my machine is important though.

I see the i915 driver loaded for you in the ProcModules.txt output.

The atheros drivers are located in:
~/drivers/net/ethernet/atheros

Are you running into issues booting Quantal?

With linux-image-3.5.0-17-generic_3.5.0-17.27_amd64.deb installed, the directory /lib/modules/3.5.0-17-generic/kernel/drivers/net/ethernet/atheros doesn't exist, neither does /lib/modules/3.5.0-17-generic/kernel/drivers/gpu/*

The reason you see the drivers loaded in my ProcModules is that I reported the issue booted into 3.5.0-16-precise (otherwise I wouldn't have firefox)

My *.deb has the following md5sum:

f9045bb3ca6a82bed29047ea7723b455 /var/cache/apt/archives/linux-image-3.5.0-17-generic_3.5.0-17.27_amd64.deb
file-size: 11694896 bytes

Maybe my archive is corrupted?

Just checked from a random mirror. The file as distributed is identical to the version I have on my machine. If I open the deb with file-roller the directories ~/kernel/drivers/gpu does not exist (among many others). So it is indeed a packaging problem (unless these drivers are located in a different package).

Also ~/kernel/drivers/net/wireless does not exist. As a consequence the dependency on crda is dropped.

So yes, I do have issues booting, no gfx, no ethernet, no wireless, no sound, but otherwise everything is fine :-)

@Felix,

Can you see if you have the linux-image-extra package installed as Julian suggests?
